G’day from Melbourne, Australia for another week.. Episode 6 to be exact and we’re rolling nicely, courtesy of Philadelphia producer BD1982. The weather has turned quite cold this week in Melbourne so it’s great to have some street bass to warm our souls! And if you’re over the other side of the world enjoying the warmer weather then there is no excuse not to pump those speakers up and get those bodies moving outside! Brian made this mix for me last year but the podcast took a break.. so here it is in all its splendor.
BD1982 is a producer and DJ who has been pushing his own take on bass-oriented music from Philadelphia to Kyoto, back to Queens and now currently in Yokohama. First beginning to experiment in recording electronic music at the age of 14 and picking up DJing at 17, BD has retained bits and pieces of musical styles from jungle and reggae to abstract jazz and motown through the years; elements of which comprise his sound today.
Working with Dev79 and Starkey of the Seclusiasis crew from Philadelphia in the past few years, BD1982 has seen releases on the acclaimed Street Bass Anthems mixtapes as well his own The Bigfoot EP in 2007. His remix of Kotchy’s “One for the Money” was released by Civil Music and is a testament to the wide palette of influences that make their way into his MPC2000. The track “Seeing Orange” was also recently featured on Starkey’s Starkbass mix CD. This summer BD1982 will release a 12″ single including a collaboration track with 77Klash prior to a full-length digital-LP on Seclusiasis.
