What is Overlap.org ?
Overlap.org is a Platform for Experimental Media — Releases, Events and Projects.
Overlap releases experimental music and videos, produces unique events, and provides a free blog to share your media with others. Overlap.org is based in San Francisco and our mission is to grow and support experimental media and culture locally, and throughout the world. 17 exclusive Overlap releases have featured a vast diversity of audio and visual artists experimenting with the overlap of different genres. 14 different Overlap events have brought people and experimentation together in the San Francisco Bay Area, New York, and London (see below, OVERLAP and LISTEN/VISION series).
Overlap was founded by musican/artist Christopher Willits and came to life with the help of Jon Phillips and Kenric McDowell, Louis Rawlins, Barry Threw, Vlad Spears, Nicky Bourque, and other devoted artists.

LISTEN and LISTEN/VISION events
LISTEN/VISION is a unique series exploring the art of perception. It is a place and time for a shared experience of sound and light and space. Overlap.org and Volume have partnered to commission new and *unreleased* sound and video recordings from an international pool of acclaimed contemporary artists. These exclusive pieces, not to be found anywhere on the web or a CD, are presented in a collective listening environment. LISTEN began as an Overlap event founded by Christopher Willits in 2005. After two successful years of audio only compositions, Overlap partnered with Volume in 2007 to expand the series into audio-visual events. If you are interested in syndicating LISTEN in your city, contact info@overlap.org . Past LISTEN events have featured unreleased audio compositions by : Carl Stone, Frank Bretschneider, Taylor Deupree, Kenneth Kirschner, Strategy, Kenric Mcdowell, Sebastien Roux, Christopher Willits, Richard Chartier, The Water, Greg Davis, Sawako, Gregg Kowalsky, Keiichi Sugimoto, and Christopher Willits + Ryuichi Sakamoto.see the past events for more info.
Copyright Notice for Submissions
All Overlap, org media uses a Creative Commons BY-NC license (free to share, non-commercially). When you submit media to share on Overlap.org, you are responsible for the content. If Overlap.org releases your work (see artist agreement below), your own copyright remains, unless a work for hire agreement has been established, or if you choose to co-publish your work with OVERLAP MUSIC (ASCAP) for licensing exposure. If Overlap.org records a live performance from an OVERLAP event of otherwise, Overlap will ask your permission before we feature the master recordings on the Overlap.org or any podcast or feed hosted from Overlap.org.
Artist Agreement for Releases
For all releases, unless otherwise agreed upon, the artist retains ownership of the master recordings and publishing (!). We simply ask that all releases are to be exclusive to Overlap for the duration of 5 years. In addition, artists may wish to publish works via Overlap’s publishing company OVERLAP MUSIC (ASCAP) for increased licensing exposure. Any licensing arranged through Overlap, from such content, will be administered for 25% less the total license price (in other words Overlap keeps 25% for a license Overlap sets up). All “pay-what-you-want” donations given to Overlap.org for a specific release are tracked on a per item basis and will be split 50% artist and 50% Overlap. Accounting will be performed every 6 months and payment will be granted via PayPal. All agreements are artist-superior and if any complexities should arise all will be handled kindly and in good faith.
