Matt Rösner is an Australian sound artist who has had releases on Room40, Apestaartje, & Meupe.
He has the gift of taking digital and acoustic sounds and fusing them seamlessly, setting them against a rich tapestry of field recordings and sonic experimentation.
“March 7, a dry heat is built from a solo piano performance by Adam Trainer taken during the ‘repeat’ sessions. The upright piano had recently been moved to Adams new flat where it now occupies a space in his reading room. On this particular March day, the Perth sun was beating down hard, light streaming into the room, with the sound of near by traffic creeping in. Two Rode microphones were positioned, and Adam commenced the improvisation.
Seven months went by and I returned to the piano recordings. The track happened very quickly, like all the good ones do, if I sit on them too long I tend to loose the focus. The piano was edited, and then augmented with further processing of Adams percussion and field recordings taken from near my home. I feel very close to this piece, it signals the start of something new whilst closing off the period when ‘repeat’ was made.”

Hi folks,
A very special guest mix this week from Marc Behrens. It is a downmix of a four-channel live performance at Casa da Música, Porto, Portugal, October 14, 2009, as opening performance of Futureplaces 2009.
Marc Behrens works on several cerebral and physical levels.
His works mainly consist of concrete electronic music, installations, the occasional photograph or video. Recent activities include field recording trips to remote western China and the Amazon rainforest, founding an incorporated company as a social art work, and staging a rite of passage for an investment banker.
Behrens has performed and exhibited extensively across Europe, the Middle East, South Africa, North America, and East Asia, and developed collaborations with Achim Wollscheid, Bernhard Günter, Francisco López, Jeremy Bernstein, Nikolaus Heyduck and Paulo Raposo, among others.
Enjoy the mix,
Simon

8.08 Chris McNamara – Vague Cities
Sleeping Car Shunting Yard
http://shop.overlap.org/album/chris-mcnamara-vague-cities
Echoes from the Windsor-Detroit techno scene modulate off Lake St. Clair and emerge into the sound forms of “Vague Cities”. McNamara’s muffled beats, gentle harmonies, and light-like shimmering textures envelope you wholly, while creating a space to breathe and be.
Chris McNamara is a Windsor ON. / Ann Arbor-based video artist, writer, DJ, new media instructor, and founding member of Thinkbox ( thinkbox.ca ), a label/collective that currently includes Christopher Bissonnette (Kranky), Steve Roy, Rob Theakston, Bill Van Loo and Mark Laliberte.
15.08 Electricwest – Detach
Flourish
http://shop.overlap.org/album/electricwest-detach
Electricwest is Patrick Benolkin, a diverse and prolific producer from Boise, Idaho. With a tip to the more electronic sides of Warp records and Ghostly International, Electricwest creates soulful and crystal-sharp experimental electronic gems. In 2006, Electricwest made some Overlap-related waves by winning a Creative Commons (CC) remix contest of Christopher Willits’ track “Colors Shifting” which was featured by Ghostly International and CC. Since then Benolkin has surfed an explosion of activity, releasing six albums via his Electricwest and Eluder monikers. “Detach” is Electicwest’s newest and most concise statement to date.
19.06 Tom Hall – Past, Present, Below
Breaks To Rest
http://shop.overlap.org/album/tom-hall-past-present-below
“Past Present, Below” is the accumulation of 2 years of experimentation, bringing together a vast array of instrumentation (drums, guitar, piano, organ, virbraphone, chinese gongs and harmonia) and field recordings (Australia, Kyoto temples, German rivers, Tasmanian forests). Hall ties these varied sources together with a unique blend of studio practices ranging from Max/MSP / Ableton Live processing, analog effects pedals and a unique process of replaying and re-recording compositions back into environments in which they originated. This album is Tom Hall’s most developed and beautiful work to date, exclusive to Overlap.
